In August, Tom Bourquin attended the IAFF conference which was held in Las Vegas, NV.  On Wednesday afternoon a special event was held at New York, New York for the conference attendees. In front of NY, NY is a iron fence. Since 9-11 people have placed fire department tee shirts on it. There are thousands of these shirts on this fence.

 

At about 2 PM that Wednesday the Convention left Mandalay Bay Hotel and marched to NY, NY which is about 1/2 mile away. It was a sight to see all the fire fighters and families marching up Las Vegas Blvd. in the 115 degree heat.  They filled up one lane of the road and it was a full half a mile long. After a short ceremony at NY, NY it was announced by the management that they are going to build a permit memorial on the site and display all the shirts that have been left.

 

As IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger was passing by Tom to put a tee shirt on the fence I stopped him and ask him to take our OHTF 1 tee shirt with him. It was the first shirt he place on the fence and was shown on the local TV stations as he placed ours along with several others. It was place at the very front of the fence.
